Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM Dismisses LoP’s Statements as ‘Daydreaming’ Aimed at Limelight

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary on Monday dismissed the recent statements made by the Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma, as mere “daydreaming” and an attempt to remain in public attention.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Chowdhary, speaking to reporters while accompanying Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the inauguration of two new blocks at the Circuit House, emphasized that the current government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was democratically elected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and only they possess the authority to remove it.

Chowdhary asserted that the incumbent administration is not a selected or nominated government, but one that has been chosen by the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir through democratic processes. He further characterized the political interactions between the BJP and PDP as unstable, likening their actions to breaking windows, and stated that Sunil Sharma was merely “dreaming” and “watching beautiful dreams of Mungerilal” regarding the government’s stability.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that the Omar Abdullah government was formed with representation from all sections of society, including residents of border areas, mountainous regions, villages, and urban centers. He underscored the public’s desire for an end to unemployment and the provision of essential services like roads, water, and electricity, stating that the people had elected the current government to address these pressing concerns.

Chowdhary stated that the National Conference government had received a clear mandate from the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and that the opposition lacked the power to destabilize it. He suggested that the Leader of Opposition was issuing statements primarily to garner media attention, acknowledging that such pronouncements would inevitably lead to media inquiries and the creation of “breaking news.”

Further alleging political collusion, Chowdhary described the BJP and PDP as “brothers,” suggesting their statements were coordinated. He reiterated that one party would make a statement one day, and the other the next, describing their political maneuvering as breaking branches of a tree.

Chowdhary also affirmed the loyalty of National Conference workers and leaders, noting that no one had abandoned the party during challenging times, and questioned why anyone would leave now that the party is in power. He praised the performance of the Omar Abdullah-led government, claiming that significant reforms and developmental initiatives had been implemented within just eighteen months, surpassing the achievements of previous governments over much longer tenures.

Referencing the newly inaugurated blocks at the Circuit House, Chowdhary questioned the inability of past governments to complete such projects despite having held power for extended periods. He pointed out that numerous infrastructure projects, including hospitals, bridges, roads, schools, and colleges, which had remained incomplete for over a decade, were now being finalized by the current administration. He challenged critics to witness the completion of these long-pending projects.

Highlighting welfare measures, Chowdhary cited the free bus service for women, stating it had benefited thousands across Jammu and Kashmir. He posed rhetorical questions, asking why other parties, including Sunil Sharma, the BJP, and the PDP, had not implemented similar schemes during their years in power, emphasizing the current government’s commitment to public welfare.
