SRINAGAR, June 20 — National Conference Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad has welcomed the decision by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to reopen the Naranag tourist spot and its associated temple for visitors, stating it will provide a significant impetus to the local economy and the ongoing summer tourism season.
The Chenab Times has learned that the reopening of Naranag, a popular destination in the Kangan area, was announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The move is anticipated to benefit hundreds of families whose livelihoods are directly or indirectly linked to the tourism sector in the region.
Mian Altaf Ahmad, in a statement released on Saturday, described the administration’s decision as a “welcome step” and a “positive development.” He highlighted Naranag’s enduring appeal to trekkers, campers, and individuals seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist hubs.
The MP emphasized the economic significance of Naranag, noting that the reopening is crucial for the survival of numerous local businesses and service providers. “Naranag is not just a tourist place; it is a livelihood for hundreds of families, ponywalas, shopkeepers, guides, and homestay owners from Kangan and surrounding villages,” he stated.
