According to details received by The Chenab Times, the CIA staff of Moga police on Monday apprehended two men and seized two country-made pistols from their possession. The operation unfolded when a police party, led by ASI Harjinder Singh, was on patrol near the railway crossing at Mehna village. Acting on specific intelligence regarding two individuals waiting with illegal firearms near a shed by the bus stand on the Moga-Ludhiana link road, the police swiftly conducted a raid.

The raid resulted in the immediate arrest of Nishan Singh and Sharanjit Singh, both identified as residents of Amritsar. Authorities recovered two .30-bore country-made pistols from the arrested individuals. Following the seizure and arrests, a case was formally registered under the Arms Act at the Mehna police station.

Expansion of Investigation and Further Arrests

During initial interrogation, the apprehended men revealed that the weapons were intended for supply to a third individual, identified as Shamsher Singh, who resides in Burj Mohammad Shah village in Ferozepur district. Based on this information, Shamsher Singh was subsequently named as a suspect in the case and has since been arrested.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Chahal stated that all three accused would be presented before a court to request police remand. He indicated that further disclosures and details regarding the broader network were anticipated as the investigation progresses.

Criminal Backgrounds of Accused Revealed

Information available with The Chenab Times indicates that the arrested individuals have prior records. Police records show that Nishan Singh has faced three previous cases registered against him in Amritsar. Sharanjit Singh is reportedly involved in a case registered last year at the Cantonment police station in Amritsar. Shamsher Singh, the third arrested individual, has a previous case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Ferozepur during 2023.

The police are continuing their efforts to ascertain the source of the illegal firearms and the intended recipients of the weapons, seeking to dismantle the entire smuggling operation. The investigation aims to uncover any further links to organized criminal activity within the region and beyond.
