SRINAGAR: In a move aimed at restructuring financial oversight, the Union Territory administration of Ladakh has assigned additional charges to five senior finance officers. The reassignments, effective immediately, aim to streamline departmental financial responsibilities.
The Chenab Times has learned that the orders, issued by the Finance Department under Order No. 443-F of 2026 dated August 12, follow an earlier directive on July 20 that functionally assigned Finance Officers to various administrative departments.
Kaneez Fatima, currently serving as Joint Director, has been given expanded duties. She will now hold the additional charge of Director, Accounts and Treasuries. This role is in addition to her existing responsibilities as Deputy Excise Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, State Taxes.
Iftikhar Hussain, who is a Joint Director and the Chief Controller of Finance for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Kargil, has been assigned further responsibilities. He will now also serve as the Pay and Accounts Officer for Kargil. Furthermore, he has taken on the role of Joint Director, Local Audit and Pensions.
Ajaz Hussain, holding the position of Chief Accounts Officer, has been entrusted with budget and establishment matters within the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries. His mandate also includes Joint Director-level financial scrutiny for several key departments: Forests, Ecology and Environment; Public Works (Rural Roads and PMGSY); Labour and Employment; and Home and Vigilance.
Accounts Officer Sonam Chorol has also received new assignments. She will now assume responsibility as Accounts Officer for the Forests, Ecology and Environment Department, operating from the UT Secretariat. This specific role was previously managed by Kaneez Fatima.
Additionally, Ms. Chorol, who also serves as Accounts Officer (Establishment) in the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries, will oversee the financial matters pertaining to the Ladakh Skill Development Mission. This arrangement will continue until further directives are issued.
A spokesperson for the Finance Department stated that these assignments were made in the best interest of administrative efficiency and were approved by the competent authority within the administration.
