Srinagar: The Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) has intervened and resolved concerns raised by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) regarding the alleged harassment of two Kashmiri students pursuing pharmacy studies in Bhopal.
The Chenab Times has learned that the students had reported facing harassment and threats, prompting the intervention. The state police, under the guidance of DGP Kailash Makwana, took immediate cognizance of the matter, initiating inquiries and counselling sessions.
The JKSA National Convenor, Nasir Khuehami, stated that following the DGP’s intervention, the police questioned individuals allegedly involved in threatening, intimidating, or pressuring the students. These individuals were summoned to the police station for further investigation into their conduct.
As part of the resolution process, residents of the society where the students reside were counselled and cautioned against any behaviour that could induce fear or a sense of insecurity among the student population. Authorities have indicated that actions are also being initiated against other fringe elements implicated in such disruptive activities.
DGP Makwana reportedly assured the students that they could live peacefully, attend their educational institutions, move about freely, and carry out their daily activities without encountering any form of fear or intimidation. The intervention aimed to ensure a secure and conducive environment for the students to focus on their academic pursuits.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by students from the Chenab region and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir who pursue higher education outside their home valley. Associations like the JKSA play a crucial role in advocating for the welfare and safety of these students, often acting as a liaison between the students and administrative authorities.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in various educational institutions across the country has been a consistent focus for regional representatives and student bodies. Such incidents, when addressed promptly and effectively, help in fostering a sense of security among students and their families.
The proactive approach by the Madhya Pradesh police underscores the importance of a responsive law enforcement system in addressing grievances promptly. The JKSA has expressed gratitude for the swift action taken, which has brought relief to the affected students and reinforced their confidence in the authorities’ commitment to their safety.
