RAJOURI: A protest erupted in Rajouri district on Monday after the body of a young man was discovered beneath the Chakli bridge. Family members and local residents blocked the Jammu-Poonch Highway, alleging foul play and demanding a thorough investigation into the death.
The Chenab Times has learned that the deceased has been identified as Aman Sharma, aged 25, son of Rashpal Sharma, a resident of Chakli in Rajouri. His body was found under the Chakli bridge, leading to immediate concern and subsequent demonstrations by the community.
Upon receiving information about the discovery, Rajouri Police promptly arrived at the scene. Officers took possession of the body and transferred it to the Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital in Rajouri for a post-mortem examination. The examination was conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
Following the completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the grieving family. Shortly after, family members and other locals initiated a protest, obstructing traffic on the vital Jammu-Poonch Highway. Their primary contention was that Aman Sharma’s death was a result of murder, and they called for a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
In response to the developing situation, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Rajouri, Jahangir Khan, visited the protest site. He engaged in discussions with the agitated family members and assured them that a fair and transparent inquiry would be conducted. Mr. Khan further stated that necessary actions would be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem report.
The administration’s assurances regarding a proper investigation and potential compensation to the family, in accordance with established norms, led to the peaceful dispersal of the protestors. Traffic movement on the highway was subsequently restored. Police have initiated further investigations into the matter, awaiting the final post-mortem report to clarify the exact cause of Aman Sharma’s death.
