At least 27 passengers sustained injuries when a double-decker bus collided with a truck on the Ganga Expressway in Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. The accident occurred near Chandoi village, close to the border of Budaun and Sambhal districts.
According to police reports and statements from health officials, the bus was en route from Ludhiana to Bangarmau when the collision took place. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the accident. Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the bus was carrying approximately 50 passengers at the time of the incident.
Following the accident, injured passengers were promptly transported to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sambhal. Those with more severe injuries were subsequently referred to district hospitals and other higher medical facilities for specialized treatment. The Sambhal Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tarun Pathak, provided an update on the medical response, stating that arrangements were being made to ensure the safe onward journey of uninjured passengers.
The Ganga Expressway, a significant infrastructure project in Uttar Pradesh, has been operational for some time, aiming to improve connectivity and reduce travel times across the state. However, like many major highways, it has also seen its share of traffic incidents. This particular stretch of the expressway is situated near the administrative boundary of the Budaun and Sambhal districts, requiring coordination between local authorities for rescue and relief operations.
Further investigation into the precise cause of the collision is being conducted by the police. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety on high-speed corridors, with driver fatigue being a frequently cited factor in such accidents. Authorities are expected to review the circumstances surrounding this crash to identify any contributing factors and implement measures to enhance safety for commuters using the expressway.
The injured passengers are receiving medical attention, and the authorities are working to provide support to those affected by the incident. The bus was traveling from Ludhiana in Punjab to Bangarmau in Hardoi district when the crash occurred. Some reports indicated that the bus driver may have crossed a toll plaza before ramming into the stationary truck.
