India Declares National Mourning for Qatar’s Former Amir

NEW DELHI: The Government of India has announced a one-day national mourning on July 13, 2026, following the demise of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Father Amir of the State of Qatar. The former Amir passed away on Sunday.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the national flag would be flown at half-mast across the country on all buildings where it is regularly displayed. Additionally, no official entertainment will be held on the designated day of mourning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his deep condolences on the passing of the Father Amir. He described Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani as a visionary leader who steered Qatar towards significant development and prosperity, and who remained a steadfast friend of India.

The Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, is scheduled to visit Qatar in the near future.
