Doda girl to represent team India at International Taekwondo Championship in Nepal

A taekwondo athlete from Doda district, Rutba Majid, who is assisted by the Indian Army, is going to represent team India at the 3rd Mount Everest International Open Taekwondo Championships in 2022.

Rutba Majid, a Taekwondo player from the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, will represent India at the 3rd Mount Everest International Open Taekwondo Championship (G2), which is sanctioned by World Taekwondo (WT), promoted by the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), and organised by the Nepal Taekwondo Association, and will be held in the Multi-Purpose Covered Hall, Pokhara Stadium, Pokhara, Nepal, from September 21st to September 25th September, 2022.

Rutba Majid will compete for India in the Junior Female 46kg category. She will be the first junior athlete from Chenab Valley who will represent India at a World Taekwondo sanctioned event.

According to a press note, this journey to Rutba became possible because of the Indian Army. The Indian Army fulfilled Rutba’s dream of representing India and also borne the cost of the event and travel expenses.

She is a trainee at Shield Taekwondo Academy. Doda was selected based on her recent performance at J&K UT and national level Taekwondo championships. Recently, she won a bronze medal in the 13th Open National Taekwondo Championships at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, organised by Madhya Pradesh Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and a gold medal in the 24th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships 2022 at JKSC Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, organised by J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd).

While speaking to Rutba’s coach, Mr. Burhan Ud Din Khan (NIS Taekwondo Coach). He said Rutba trains hard, and one day her training and hard work will pay off and she will become an inspiration for the rest of the Doda girls. They also thanked the Indian Army who assisted Rutba in the above-mentioned event, especially Commanding Officer 10RR and Major Naveed, who are always ready to help the athletes of Doda. Mr. Junaid Ali Khan, President of the District Doda Taekwondo Association, congratulated Rutba Majid and Coach, wished them good luck, and assured them of full support for the event.
