Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that a substantial stock stored in the factory’s basement was reduced to ashes. While the precise extent of the financial losses is still under assessment, preliminary estimates suggest damages could run into crores of rupees.

Firefighters faced considerable challenges in their efforts to control the fire, necessitating the use of makeshift ladders to access the upper floors of the building. To facilitate the spraying of water into the basement, the grills of the structure were broken open.

In an initial effort, factory owners and employees managed to relocate a portion of the stock to a safer location before the fire could spread further. However, the majority of the inventory and equipment within the affected floors and basement were lost to the flames.

According to Fire Officer Aatish Rai, the firefighting operations had been ongoing for an extended period, exceeding 12 hours. While the flames on the upper levels of the building were largely brought under control, pockets of fire continued to emanate from the basement, posing a persistent challenge to the responding teams.

Officer Rai further stated that the operation involved the deployment of over 100 fire tenders, highlighting the magnitude of the incident and the scale of the resources mobilized to combat the fire. The continuous efforts aimed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures and to bring the situation under complete control.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and is expected to be a subject of investigation once the immediate firefighting operations conclude and the site is deemed safe for inspection. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures in industrial units across the city.

Shreyans Fabrics is understood to be a significant player in the garment manufacturing sector in Ludhiana, a city known for its extensive industrial base. The destruction of its unit and inventory is likely to have a notable impact on its operations and the local supply chain. Local authorities have commenced preliminary assessments of the damage and are coordinating with factory management to address the aftermath of the incident.
