Jalandhar, Punjab – A massive pulse polio immunization campaign has commenced across the district of Jalandhar, aiming to administer essential polio drops to an estimated 1.96 lakh children aged between 0 to 5 years. The initiative, part of the national pulse polio program, will run from June 28 to June 30, covering all children irrespective of their location, including those in brick kilns, construction sites, and migratory settlements.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Civil Surgeon of Jalandhar, Dr. Rajesh Garg, has issued directives to all participating health teams, emphasizing the importance of achieving complete coverage and ensuring no child is missed during the three-day drive. The campaign is designed to reach approximately 5 lakh households throughout the district, encompassing both urban and rural areas.
To bolster public awareness regarding the commencement of the pulse polio immunization drive, Dr. Garg officially flagged off a rickshaw rally from the Civil Surgeon’s office on Friday. This symbolic event aimed to disseminate information and encourage community participation in the crucial public health effort.
The operational framework for the campaign has been meticulously established, with a total of 2,203 teams constituted for the district. These teams comprise 2,107 house-to-house visitation units, 66 mobile teams to reach remote areas, and 30 transit teams stationed at strategic points. These dedicated teams are tasked with surveying 5,41,258 houses and administering polio drops to the targeted 1,96,657 children. Furthermore, the campaign will specifically focus on 715 high-risk areas identified within both urban and rural parts of Jalandhar, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive adequate attention.
To ensure efficient oversight and execution of the campaign, the Health Department has deployed 267 supervisors across the district. These supervisors play a critical role in monitoring the progress of the vaccination teams, addressing any logistical challenges, and ensuring adherence to established protocols.
The Civil Surgeon made a direct appeal to the residents of Jalandhar, urging them to extend their full cooperation to the Health Department teams. He stressed that by ensuring their children, aged 0 to 5 years, receive the polio drops, parents play a pivotal role in protecting them from the debilitating effects of polio and contributing to the broader goal of polio eradication in the country.
Present at the event and involved in the campaign’s coordination were District Vaccination Officer Dr. Simranjit Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Vaninder Riar, along with other members of the Health Department, including Dr. Dev and Dr. Monica.
