A tragic accident involving a speeding tipper on the Tanda-Srihargobindpur road in Punjab has resulted in the deaths of a woman and her 17-year-old daughter, with three others sustaining serious injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Jeevan Palace, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the tipper first collided with a motorcycle carrying a family of three who were returning from Gurdwara Pul Pukhta Sahib. The collision, which happened near the Life Care Hospital bridge around 3:30 pm, tragically crushed Paramjit Kaur and her daughter Gurkirat Kaur, both residents of Ward No. 12, Tanda, to death. Paramjit Kaur’s husband, Davinder Singh, and the son of Gurjit Singh, who were also on the motorcycle, sustained severe injuries.
The same tipper then proceeded to hit two more motorcyclists who were reportedly stationary by the roadside near Jeevan Palace. This second collision left Gurwinder Singh of Sallopur (Kahnuwan) and Baljit Singh, a resident of Tibbar (Gurdaspur), with serious injuries. The victims of both incidents were promptly transported to the Government Hospital in Tanda and Rekhi Harbans Hospital for immediate medical attention.
A police team from Tanda quickly arrived at the scene. Authorities took possession of the tipper and arrested the driver. The bodies of the deceased were also taken into police custody as the investigation into the incident commenced.
Eyewitnesses at the scene have alleged that the tipper driver was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time of the accident. The police are actively investigating this claim, and the driver is currently undergoing medical examination to ascertain the veracity of these allegations.
